DEG and Panin Bank in cooperation with EKONID Launch German Desk – Financial Support and Solutions in Indonesia

Service to provide financing solutions to companies seeking to invest and operate in emerging markets.

The German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK-Indonesia or EKONID), the German Investment and Development Corporation (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft or DEG) and Panin Bank, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Grand Opening of the German Desk – Financial Support and Solution (DG-FSS) in Indonesia, also known as German Desk Indonesia.

The service aims to provide financing support and solutions to German and Indonesian companies seeking to enhance bilateral business relations. With the support of EKONID’s long-standing presence in Indonesia, as well as local partner Panin Bank, German Desk Indonesia will not only provide suitable financing information for the emerging market, but also bridge economic relations between the two nations.

Held at the Hermitage Hotel in Menteng, Jakarta, the event was attended by Mr. Bruno Wenn, Chairman of DEG’s Management Board; Mr. Herwidiyatmo, President Director and CEO of Panin Bank; Mrs. Natalia Ratna Kentjana, Director for Promotion Development at the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM); Mr. Hendrik Barkeling, Deputy Chief of Mission at the German Embassy to Indonesia; and Mr. Martin Krummeck, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Business Development Dept. at EKONID.

The launching received a very warm reception from the some 120 attendants from the German-Indonesian business community who filled the conference room. Following several short opening speeches by Herwidiyatmo, Wenn and Barkeling on the demand for financing for German companies in Indonesia, the launching was concluded by a very informative forum regarding the challenges on acquiring financing to start up a business in the archipelago, as well as some of the ways businesses can improve their loan applications in order to smoothen the process.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Wenn said, “Indonesia has been for years an important investment market for DEG. We are proud to open the first German Desk in Asia in Indonesia along with Panin Bank, which is a long-time client of us, as well as with EKONID. Through this cooperation, we want to create new business opportunities for German companies and their trading partners. The German desk offers innovative financing solutions that can be tailored to the needs of the end user.”

Mr. Herwidiyatmo said he was very pleased to welcome the cooperation with the DEG and EKONID. “This is the first time a German institution and an Indonesian bank conduct this type of cooperation. We hope that this initiative can strengthen the bilateral trade relations between Indonesia and Germany.”

In a separate interview, Mr. Krummeck said he was very pleased with DEG's decision to set up the second German Desk on in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and by far the most populous country in the region. The German Desk enables German and local companies to obtain information on financial services and suitable financing solutions from a single source. The DEG offer thus optimally complements the support and advisory services offered by the AHK, further opening up new business opportunities especially for medium-sized companies and their local customers.

“The German Desk Indonesia is an important step in intensifying and developing German-Indonesian economic relations. DEG and AHK will cooperate very closely in advising companies and to facilitate their endeavors as we grow our two economies together,” said Mr. Krummeck.

The DIHK (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag or Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce) welcomes this development.
