InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza celebrated the official launch of the festive season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 29, 2016. Young children from a local orphanage were invited to attend the ceremony and experience the true spirit of the season with taxis from the Blue Bird Group generously transporting some 30 little ones safely to and from the hotel and Pondok Si Boncel in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. Operating under the banner of Vincentius Association, this charity facility provides a nurturing home environment for underprivileged children under the age of 6 years.
There was also a heartfelt performance of traditional Christmas carols performed by the children’s choir from Studio Ratu Makin and storytelling by Tania Kathryne from Rumah Dongeng Pelangi. Local Jakarta artists Nina Yunken and Meivin Malelak then took to the stage for some more uplifting songs and games.
Hendrik Eising, General Manager of InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza, pushed the button that brought the Christmas tree to life in a dazzling display of lights. The hotel also took this opportunity to launch its Christmas Giving Tree: an inspiring initiative symbolizing community care. The tree is decorated with a collection of cards featuring the photos and Christmas wishes of children from Pondok Si Boncel. Over the coming weeks, guests will be invited to choose a card and make an appropriate donation to ensure that every child receives a gift. Guests who purchase a card from our Christmas Giving Tree will receive a special festive souvenir from the hotel.
“Our Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is an important event on the hotel’s calendar. Christmas really is all about giving children a magical experience filled with happy memories. I would like to thank all of our sponsors for making this celebration possible,” said Mr. Eising.
