Three Mercedes-Benz AMGs celebrates 50th anniversary

18.10.2017

The three high-performance Mercedes-Benz models from Affalterbach, Germany, looked back at half-a-century worth of success stories, whether it’s on the race track or on the road, this year.

At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Automotive Show (GIIAS) 2017, Mercedes Benz puts on the spotlight its new AMG E 43, the new AMG GLC 43 Coupé and the new AMG GT R. The New Mercedes-AMG GT R is well known for being developed at the so-called “Green Hell” Nurburgring race track, the most difficult racetrack in the world, straight to the main street. Never has Mercedes-Benz included so many cutting edge technologies into a commercially produced vehicle. The middle-front engine concept, complete with transaxie, a V-8 twin-turbo engine that produces 430 kW/585 hp worth of power and an extensively modified suspension system has laid the foundation to an incredibly dynamic driving experience.

New aerodynamics and a lean and brilliant construction concept further accerates that driving experience. The frontal and rear wings have been widened to allow optimum control and faster speeds during turns. A new front fascia introduces an active element, while a large rear aerofoil and rear fascia, along with the double diffuser, has further increased the car’s aerodynamics. The lightly tempered Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire as a standard was also designed specifically for that maximum driving dynamics. Completing the package are various features such as an active rear-wheels control, an adjustable nine-directional traction control and an electronically adjustable coil-over suspension – not to mention the AMG GT R’s unique Panamericana grille.

Designed to be driven on the race track, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG GT R can go from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 318km/h. With a power-to-weight ratio of 2.66kg per hp, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R has truly demonstrated why it is at the forefront of its segment.

“With this new AMG GT R, we have reached the next level in driving performance: A sports car that can be used in the road, possessing within it the genes of a racecar combined with innovative technical solutions. The AMG GT R offers the best driving experience, while also allowing people to take part in where we’re coming from in the field motorized sports from every inch of the car. Those who has fallen in love with motorized sports will be very pleased with sports car, which has been especially designed for them,” said Roelof Lamberts, President and CEO of PT Mercedes-Benz Distributions Indonesia.
