Fifty years of German-Indonesian engineering collaboration just reached a new milestone. Siemens Indonesia has officially expanded its historic switchgear manufacturing facility in Pulomas, East Jakarta, reaffirming a deep-seated commitment to local production, economic partnership, and future-ready infrastructure.

That commitment took center stage on August 19, 2026, when H.E. Reem Alabali Radovan, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, visited the Pulomas site alongside a parliamentary delegation and German Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, H.E. Ralf Beste.

The visit wasn’t just ceremonial; it was a deep dive into how sustainable development, renewable energy, and private-sector grit actually look on the ground. Before cutting the ribbon on the expanded production lines, the delegation explored the Siemens Xperience Center—inaugurated in 2025 to champion Indonesia’s digital transformation. More than just an immersive hub showcasing cutting-edge tech in electrification, automation, and digitalization, the center serves as a collaborative training space where partners and customers can explore solutions accelerating sustainable transformation.

Built in Indonesia, For ASEAN and Beyond

Walk through the gates of the Pulomas site—spanning some 24,000 square meters—and you see the heartbeat of regional manufacturing. Established back in 1975, with switchgear production kicking off in 1978 and its first international export leaving the docks in 1990, the plant has spent more than half a century evolving into a vital manufacturing and export hub for Indonesia and the wider ASEAN market.

Today, the facility specializes in producing advanced air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear—such as the NXAIR and SIMOSEC series up to 24 kV—alongside low-voltage systems like SIVACON. Visitors during the tour saw firsthand how the integrated NXAIR medium-voltage switchgear and SIVACON low-voltage systems work together in a complete approach to modern industrial power distribution.

The numbers tell a compelling story of local empowerment: roughly 70% of the equipment produced here stays to power Indonesian homes, businesses, and infrastructure, while 30% heads overseas. Even more telling? Around 90% of the workforce is local. For Siemens, technological excellence has always meant investing in the people right here in Indonesia.

Investing in People, Not Just Machinery

Ask anyone at Siemens, and they'll tell you that building great products is only half the job—building great people is the rest. During the factory tour, the German delegation skipped the usual corporate handshakes to talk directly with Siemens internship students on the shop floor. They inspected quality- control zones and saw firsthand how the company bridges the gap between textbooks and heavy industry.

Through initiatives like the German Dual Vocational Education & Training framework, Ausbildung der Ausbilder (training of trainers), and hands-on apprenticeships, Siemens is actively cultivating the next generation of Indonesian technical talent. It’s practical, boots-on-the-ground capability building that pays dividends for the whole community.

Looking Ahead: Powering Sustainable Growth

Beyond hardware and skills training, Siemens is committed to backing its products with reliable customer support. The launch of the Siemens Indonesia Call Center gives professionals nationwide direct access to expert help, making every project smoother and more efficient.

The expansion of the Pulomas Switchgear Factory is about much more than extra manufacturing space. It shows Siemens' strong confidence in Indonesia’s future and its readiness to help drive the country's industrial transformation.

Looking ahead, Siemens plans to solidify its role as a regional manufacturing and technology hub while continuing to invest in local talent, innovation, and sustainable growth. As a Premium Partner of AHK Indonesia/EKONID, Siemens Indonesia has long been an active member of the German-Indonesian business community. By combining global expertise with deep local roots, the company is helping build a future where technology made in Indonesia serves not only the domestic market but also industries across the region. This expanded facility stands as proof of that vision and Siemens' long-term commitment to growing hand in hand with Indonesia for decades to come.
