News Prabowo Appoints New Ministers in Economic and Industry Reshuffle

President Prabowo Subianto appointed ten ministers and deputy ministers to Indonesia’s Red and White Cabinet on 1 October 2026, including several changes to positions related to industry, economic policy, finance, energy and foreign affairs.

The appointments were made under Presidential Decree No. 104/P of 2026 and took place at the State Palace in Jakarta. Among the principal changes, Muhammad Sarmuji was appointed Minister of Industry, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir became Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Bahlil Lahadalia was appointed Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition.

Sarmuji replaced Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as Minister of Industry. Following the appointment, Antara reported that Sarmuji would take over responsibility for Indonesia’s industrial policy at a time when the government continues to focus on manufacturing, downstream processing and industrial development.

Bahlil, who continues to serve as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, was given the additional position of Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition. According to the State Secretariat, he said the coordinating ministry would focus on accelerating the implementation of the government’s downstreaming and energy-transition programmes.

The reshuffle also introduced changes within the government’s broader economic team. Drajad Hari Wibowo was appointed Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, while Nurkholisoh Ibnu Aman and Luky Alfirman were appointed Deputy Ministers of Finance. Muhammad Saleh Mustafa was named Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irwan Meilano Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

In foreign affairs, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir was appointed Foreign Minister, replacing Sugiono, who moved to the position of Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. Arrmanatha previously served as Deputy Foreign Minister and has held several positions in Indonesia’s diplomatic service.

Speaking after his inauguration, Arrmanatha said Indonesia would continue its established foreign policy direction and the country’s longstanding “free and active” principle. He also referred to the increasingly complex international environment facing Indonesian diplomacy.

The 1 October appointments form part of a broader government reshuffle involving ministers, deputy ministers and other senior state officials. In a separate inauguration on the same day, President Prabowo also appointed a new presidential chief of staff and officials to several government agencies.
