On 19-20 August, EKONID participated in the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2026 at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta as part of the joint German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation booth.
Together with GIZ, KfW, DEG, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), EKONID presented the range of expertise and support available to stakeholders involved in Indonesia’s energy transition. The joint booth brought together organisations working across technical and development cooperation, financing, standards, and private-sector engagement.
ISEW 2026 was hosted by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, with support from the Government of Germany and organised by GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN. Held in conjunction with Indosolar 2026, the event brought together policymakers, businesses, investors, development partners, academia, and technology providers to discuss the implementation of Indonesia’s energy-transition agenda. More than 700 participants attended the opening day.
The event was officially opened by H.E. Reem Alabali Radovan, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, together with H.E. Prof. Rachmat Pambudy, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, and H.E. Yuliot Tanjung, Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
In her opening remarks, Minister Alabali Radovan described Indonesia as a key partner for Germany and highlighted the energy transition as an opportunity for sustainable growth, job creation, local value creation, and stronger long-term business relations between Indonesian and German and European companies.
The strong German business presence was also reflected in the participation of 27 German companies at ISEW 2026, which were present to explore opportunities for business collaboration with Indonesian partners.
Representing EKONID were Executive Director Dr. Monika Erath and Supervisory Board Member Surya Fitri, together with members of EKONID’s Business Development Department Stephan Blocks, Margareth Salindeho, Florian Jändrasch-Eisenschmidt, and Raffael Sonnenhol.
At the booth, EKONID highlighted its role in connecting German companies with Indonesian partners and developments in the energy sector. The joint presence also demonstrated how different institutions can complement one another in supporting Indonesia’s transition toward a more sustainable energy system.
The participation followed EKONID’s German Energy Business Roundtable earlier in August, where German companies and institutions discussed regulatory conditions, procurement, smart-grid development, biogas and biomethane, and the need for closer dialogue between industry and policymakers.
EKONID will continue to support German-Indonesian cooperation in the energy sector by facilitating dialogue, connecting companies and institutions, and helping businesses identify opportunities in Indonesia’s evolving energy landscape.
