The German RETech Partnership e.V. is a network that unites export-oriented companies and institutions from Germany’s waste management and recycling industry. Its goal is to promote the export of innovative, tailored technologies and enable global knowledge transfer. RETech covers the entire value chain of waste management — from collection and logistics to treatment, recycling, as well as marketing — and also includes consulting, planning, research, and education. By connecting expertise across these areas, RETech serves as a platform for advancing sustainable solutions worldwide.

The delegation program began with opening remarks from Dr. Monika Erath, Executive Director of EKONID, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of enhancing German–Indonesian cooperation in waste management and circular economy development. This was followed by Mr. Michael Lüdden, Managing Partner LM-Group, Board Member German RETech Partnership e.V.; Board Member VDMA Waste and Recycling Technology, who introduced Germany’s recycling technology ecosystem and outlined the delegation’s objectives.

EKONID then provided a comprehensive overview of Indonesia’s waste sector and regulatory landscape. Ms. Olivia Noor presented the business development trends and market opportunities in Indonesia followed by Ms. Nurul Khasbullah who discussed key legal considerations for companies operating in the waste sector, and Mr. Oliver Döhne from GTAI shared additional insights into Indonesia’s broader investment environment.

The market overview session featured several Indonesian stakeholders who elaborated on the state of electronic waste, biowaste, and circular economy progress. Mr. Rafa Jafar from EwasteRJ explained the informal e-waste collection ecosystem, and Mr. Lendy Partono from PT. Recycling Indo Technology (Retron) described their IT asset disposal process, dismantling and segregation systems, and material recovery operations in Tebet and Gunung Sindur. Mr. Wolfgang Goetz of Organics Bali provided an overview of waste-to-energy and biogas initiatives, while Mr. Adhitya Prayoga from GIZ Indonesia explained ongoing circular economy projects and support mechanisms.

The day concluded with an open discussion among delegates and speakers, focusing on shared challenges, future collaboration, and opportunities to expand responsible waste management solutions across Indonesia.

Day 2: Tuesday, 2 December 2025 – Purwakarta

On the second day, the delegation conducted a site visit to PT Mukti Mandiri Lestari in Purwakarta, one of Indonesia’s leading E-Waste recycling plants. The group was welcomed by Mr. Fariz Muhammad Rizwan, responsible for International Affairs and Market Development, and Ms. Layla Dutha Faradiba, Head of Sustainability and Partnership Development.

Delegates were taken on a tour of Plant 3, where they observed the facility’s operations firsthand, including the dismantling of transmission antennas, cable and rubber splitting processes, battery separation, and the sorting and recycling of precious metals and alloys used in jewelry manufacturing. The visit highlighted the company’s integrated approach to materials recovery and its alignment with circular economy principles.

At Plant 2, representatives from Mukti Mandiri Lestari’s management, including Mr. Wawan Budiawan – President Director and Ms. Suhaedah – Director joined the delegation for a roundtable discussion. Topics included the advancement of e-waste processing, potential applications of German technologies, machinery and the development of sustainable recycling hubs in Indonesia. The session emphasized shared interest in fostering long-term cooperation between Indonesian and German industry players. The visit ended with a networking lunch before the delegation returned to Jakarta.

Day 3: Wednesday, 3 December 2025 – Circular Economy Forum, Jakarta

Mr. Jürgen Millitz introduced German RETech Partnership e.V. followed by Mr. Thomas Schneider from GIZ Indonesia who introduced GIZ’s InCircular  Project, while Ms. Jessica Hanafi, Executive Director of PT Life Cycle Indonesia, delivered a detailed presentation on ISO certification related to circular economy practices.

The concluding session brought together German delegates and Indonesian associations for an open discussion on waste challenges, innovation needs, and potential areas of bilateral collaboration. Representatives included members from Starfindo (Indonesian Startup for Industry Assocation), MAPSI (Waste Activists Society), IdWA (Indonesian Water Association) and METI (Indonesian Renewable Energy Society). Conversations focused on strengthening German-Indonesian cooperation in areas such as e-waste recycling, waste-to-energy solutions, government support and initiatives regarding the E-Waste sector.

The RETech Delegation highlighted the growing urgency and opportunity within Indonesia’s waste management and circular economy sectors. With Germany’s strength in recycling innovation and Indonesia’s increasing need for sustainable waste solutions, the program served as an important catalyst for new partnerships, technological exchange, and long-term collaboration.
