Business Delegation to Indonesia Exploring Geothermal Market Opportunities

  • Event

September 21-25, 2026 | Jakarta & Bandung, Indonesia

Event Geothermal Business Delegation

Background

Indonesia holds one of the largest geothermal reserves in the world and is actively expanding its geothermal capacity. The sector is regulated through the Geothermal Working Area (WKP) concession system, which defines project areas and governs development through various project phases. Understanding this regulatory and institutional framework is essential for companies seeking to enter the Indonesian market.

Key institutions driving geothermal development include:

  • PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) – one of the world’s largest geothermal operators
  • PT PLN (Persero) – the state-owned electricity company responsible for power procurement and grid integration
  • PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI) – a central institution for structuring and financing infrastructure and energy projects

In addition, organizations such as the Geological Agency (PVMBG), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and the Indonesian Geothermal Association (INAGA) provide scientific expertise, regulatory input, and industry networking.

Based on Indonesia’s current project pipeline, there is growing demand for advanced technologies such as:

  • Efficient drilling and exploration technologies
  • High-performance turbines and ORC systems
  • Digital monitoring and predictive maintenance systems
  • Hybrid grid integration and energy storage solutions
  • Environmental management technologies, including reinjection and H₂S emission reduction

Objective

  • Explore the market: Gain in-depth insights into Indonesia’s geothermal sector, including the regulatory framework, project pipeline, and technology needs.
  • Connect with key stakeholders: Establish direct contacts with Indonesian companies, government institutions, and industry associations.
  • Showcase German technology: Present innovative German solutions and strengthen your company’s visibility in Indonesia’s energy market.
  • Identify business opportunities: Discover concrete entry points for project participation, technology supply, and investment along the geothermal value chain.
  • Build strategic partnerships: Explore long-term cooperation opportunities with Indonesian partners in project development, technology transfer, and research collaboration.

Format

Indonesia’s geothermal sector is one of the most strategic renewable energy markets in Southeast Asia. As part of the country’s national energy and climate strategy, geothermal energy plays a key role in strengthening energy security while supporting long-term decarbonization goals.

To explore these opportunities, German companies are invited to participate in a Project Exploration Trip to Indonesia focused on geothermal market opportunities for German technology providers. The objective of this trip is to provide a structured overview of Indonesia’s geothermal market, identify concrete project opportunities, and establish direct contacts with key stakeholders in the Indonesian energy sector.

The program includes preparatory expert webinars, on-site market briefings, meetings with state-owned energy companies and major financial institutions, technical workshops, site visits to geothermal power plants in West Java, and targeted B2B meetings. Networking dinners and informal exchanges with relevant market players will further support the development of long-term business partnerships.

Program Highlights
  • Market and regulatory briefings: Participants will gain insights into Indonesia’s geothermal market, including the regulatory framework, the WKP (Geothermal Working Area) concession system, and current expansion projects in the sector.
  • Meetings with key market players: Direct discussions with leading Indonesian energy institutions such as PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE), PT PLN (Persero), and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI) will provide insights into project pipelines, procurement structures, and financing mechanisms.
  • Technical workshops and presentation sessions: During technical workshops in Bandung, participating German companies will present their solutions to Indonesian experts from industry, government institutions, and academia.
  • Executive roundtable discussions: Participants will have the opportunity to exchange views with senior representatives from energy companies, financial institutions, and industry associations on project opportunities and cooperation models.
  • Site visits to geothermal projects: Visits to geothermal facilities in West Java—including Kamojang, Wayang Windu, and Patuha—will provide practical insights into plant operations, modernization needs, and innovation opportunities.
  • Networking and business meetings: Networking dinners and targeted business meetings will enable participants to establish valuable contacts with potential partners and stakeholders in Indonesia’s geothermal sector.
