Background
The ASEAN Power Grid (APG) is one of Southeast Asia’s most ambitious energy infrastructure initiatives, aiming to establish a fully interconnected regional electricity market. Supported by major investments from international financial institutions, the APG is creating significant business opportunities in transmission infrastructure, smart grids, grid digitalization, energy storage, renewable energy integration, subsea cable systems, and engineering services.
The energy transition is fundamentally transforming electricity systems worldwide. As renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power become increasingly important, countries are facing new challenges regarding grid stability, flexibility, storage capacity and the integration of decentralized energy systems. Germany has emerged as one of the world's leading markets for renewable energy integration, smart grids and innovative energy infrastructure solutions.
Through decades of practical implementation, Germany has developed advanced approaches to transmission and distribution network management, large-scale battery storage, digital grid operation, energy communities and sector coupling. These solutions are becoming increasingly relevant for ASEAN countries as they seek to modernize their energy systems and support the growth of renewable energy generation.
Key topics of the delegation include:
- Smart grids and digitalized electricity networks
- Grid integration of renewable energy
- Battery energy storage systems
