Enter the Indonesian Healthcare Market with Individualized Support
Are you active in the healthcare industry and looking to enter the growing Indonesian market?
The pilot project “Healthcare Industry Consultation Vouchers Asia” supports German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups in expanding into international markets. The financial support includes professional consulting services for market entry into Indonesia.
This project is part of the Healthcare Industry Export Initiative (EXGW) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and is implemented jointly by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) and the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA).
The project is further supported by BIO Deutschland e.V., the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (BPI), and the German Health Alliance (GHA).
Why Indonesia?
Indonesia is one of Asia’s most dynamic healthcare markets. Growing demand for pharmaceutical products, biotechnology, and innovative healthcare solutions is driven by a rapidly expanding population, increasing healthcare spending, and the national health insurance system (JKN).
Particularly attractive market opportunities for German companies exist in the fields of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), diagnostics, and pharmaceutical intermediates. At the same time, the Indonesian government is actively investing in the expansion of its domestic healthcare and pharmaceutical industries while promoting international cooperation and technology transfer.
However, successful market entry requires careful preparation, particularly with regard to regulatory requirements, product registrations, and local market structures.
Who is Eligible for Funding?
The funding program is aimed at companies in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and digital health that meet the following criteria:
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups with fewer than 750 employees and either annual revenue below EUR 150 million or a balance sheet total below EUR 129 million.
- Registered office or branch office in Germany.
Which Consulting Services are Funded?
The consulting support covers a wide range of services and helps German companies assess market potential, understand regulatory requirements, and develop an appropriate market entry strategy for Indonesia.
As the officially appointed implementing partner on the ground, AHK Indonesia/EKONID supports German companies entering the Indonesian market and provides assistance in the following areas:
- Market Analysis: A country-specific analysis providing a comprehensive assessment of market attractiveness, the competitive environment, and potential market entry barriers. Relevant market information, as well as company and competitor research, is also included.
- Regulatory Support: Guidance on legal frameworks, product registrations, approval procedures, and reimbursement systems (excluding legal representation or licensing services). Companies also receive initial regulatory information for the Indonesian market.
- Partner Search and Business Matchmaking: Targeted support in identifying distributors, customers, and local business partners. This includes facilitating relevant business contacts, organizing business meetings, and connecting companies with key stakeholders in Indonesia’s healthcare sector.
Scope of Funding
Up to 10 consulting days of 8 hours each can be funded. Compliance with de minimis regulations is required.
As a rule, 80% of eligible consulting costs are covered by the program. Participating companies contribute the remaining 20%, provided that the de minimis requirements are met.
