President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated new industrial operations and launched construction of additional facilities at Weda Bay, alongside new exports of electric vehicle battery-related materials.
Indonesia launched 11 industrial projects with a combined investment value of USD 10,2 billion at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, on Thursday, 8 October 2026. The inauguration, attended by President Prabowo Subianto, also marked the launch of exports of electric vehicle (EV) battery-related materials produced by PT REPT Battero Indonesia.
Of the 11 projects, four entered commercial operations, while construction began on seven additional facilities. The projects cover nickel processing, battery materials, aluminium production, electric vehicle-related components and photovoltaic glass manufacturing.
The newly commercialized operations include PT Blue Sparking Energy, which produces mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP), an intermediate material used in the battery industry; PT Pioneer Aluminium Industries; PT XCMG Indonesia Manufacturing; and PT REPT Battero Indonesia.
The seven projects beginning construction include facilities developed by PT Guang Ching Nickel Cobalt, PT Inno Prima Material, PT Tinci Materials Indonesia, PT Weda Bay Aluminium, PT Bintang Karya Aluminium, PT Flat Solar Energy Indonesia and PT Foton Guangqing Motor Indonesia.
Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani stated that the four commercial projects represented approximately USD 3,4 billion in investment, while the additional projects were expected to account for USD 6,8 billion.
The developments form part of Indonesia's policy to expand domestic processing and manufacturing activities, particularly in industries linked to its mineral resources. Indonesia has become a major supplier of processed nickel products following its 2020 ban on raw nickel ore exports.
During the inauguration, President Prabowo reiterated the government's commitment to protecting both domestic and foreign investments. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining environmental standards, workplace safety and the quality of water and air surrounding industrial facilities.
The new projects add to existing investment at IWIP, which has developed into a major industrial processing and manufacturing centre in eastern Indonesia.
The expansion introduces additional production capacity across several industrial sectors, including battery supply chains, aluminium processing and components for electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies.
